Business Development Manager - Energy Systems


Our client is seeking an individual to manage the Strategic Business Development within their Energy Systems Department.

The Energy Systems Department is responsible for identifying and incubating opportunities to expand their business in the energy industry, leveraging their existing business competencies in solar systems, consumer electronics and devices. The department undertakes a wide range of activities including: analysis of industry and regulatory trends; development and promotion of business and technology strategies; business and economic modeling; innovative technology development and prototyping; industry partnership and relationship development; deployment of systems in industry pilots and trials.

They are an international company, financially secure and growing.

The Business Development Manager will

· identify actionable business opportunities in the Energy Industry through in-depth analysis of business, policy and technology trends related to smart-grid and renewable energy.

· Work with senior management to construct comprehensive proposals, identify a path to execute on these opportunities and to promote them within the company.

Additional duties will include;

· Prioritization of industry segments, industry alliances and regulatory bodies (emphasizing North America) for analysis based on strategic objectives

· Monitoring and reporting on industry developments and policy trends, providing insight on opportunities and threats

· Business modeling, economic analysis and competitive analysis in key identified business segments

· Representing our client as needed in high priority industry bodies, conferences, events and standards bodies

· Developing relationships with outside parties as needed to support strategic business development activities

· Interact closely with development teams in their southwest WA. facility

What we need from you:

· At least 5 years direct experience working in the energy industry (e.g. electric utility, energy services provider, energy consulting) Energy industry experience in these areas is preferred: renewables, distribution, energy efficiency, demand side management

· Solid grasp of renewable energy systems, in particular photovoltaics, their interconnection requirements and related BOS

· Experience with market, competitor and business model analysis

· Ability to create actionable business opportunity proposals supported by in-depth analysis

· Demonstrable understanding of the North American Electric Power Industry, its current status, issues facing the industry and likely future direction of this industry in regard to smart-grid and renewable integration

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills

· Minimum Masters level education. Business, economics or equivalent is preferred, although education in relevant technical field is also acceptable when accompanied by at least three years of relevant business experience

· Knowledge of technical challenges facing deployment of smart-grid/high penetration renewables and potential solutions

· Prior experience representing company in standards bodies, industry alliances or regulatory bodies preferred.

Relocation to the Portland Oregon Metro area available
